On April 30, our board of directors in partnership with Travis Avenue Baptist Church hosted volunteers, financial partners, and patients for our annual Prayer and Praise Breakfast. Attendees heard patient stories, witnessed the launch of our new campaign 2020 Vision, and honored retiring volunteers James and Georgie Teel with the first annual Mercy Clinic volunteer award named in their honor.
Highlights from the Breakfast
This year we heard patient testimonies from Claudia Garcia and the family of Kimberly, our miracle child. Bob Reccord, president and CEO of Hope for the Heart, brought an encouraging message, and our founder Dr. Rebekah Naylor publicly announced our new campaign, 2020 Vision, including the receipt of a $150,000 grant by the Martha Sue Parr Trust.
Announcing 2020 Vision
In March of 2013, Mercy Clinic opened its doors to the public for the first time. For the past three years, we have made our home in a converted house behind Travis Avenue Baptist Church. Over the years, word has spread about our volunteers’ ministry in the 76110 community. We have outgrown our space.
Our board members have launched the 2020 Vision campaign so that we can expand our capacity to serve our neighbors in south Fort Worth. The new clinic planned for the Hemphill property will be designed to accommodate an increased patient load, as well as expanding services to surrounding zip codes in Tarrant County.
To kick off the campaign, Dr. Naylor announced the receipt of $150,000 grant from the Martha Sue Parr Trust as a lead gift towards 2020 Vision.
The James and Georgie Teel Award
James and Georgie Teel served as translators and evangelists since we opened in 2013. Having known Dr. Naylor since childhood, they were among the first to sign up when we began gathering volunteers. This year, they announced their retirement from regular volunteering in the clinic. In honor of the service, executive director Peggy Leitch along with the rest of the board presented the Teels with our first annual volunteer service award. As a testament to their faithfulness, the board named this award in honor of its first recipients.
Thank you for serving our neighbors!
A Big Thank You!
Thank you again to Travis Avenue Baptist Church for hosting the 3rd Annual Prayer and Praise Breakfast. And thank you to all of our volunteers, ministry partners, and financial supporters for coming alongside us to serve the 76110 neighborhood in Jesus’ name!
